NEW SITE FOR THE CHILEAN CERC COLLECTION

ASEP/JDS has opened a new site for the Chilean CERC study, conducted by Carlos Huneeus, and corresponding to the years 1987 to 2005. This collection includes 56 barometer studies including questions about the political and economical Chilean actuality.

NEWS LATINOBARÓMETRO 2010

We have the pleasure to announce somenovelties in the Latinobarómetro collection: the publication of Latinobarómetro 2011, the opening of Latinobarómetro 2010, the revision of the región, city and party codes for the 1991-2010 period in order to normalize and complete missing codes. The files will be posted at the Latinobarómetro page during August 2013 and the new site will be updated in September for online access to the 1995-2011 aggregate.

ASEP INDICATORS IN THE SPANISH ECONOMIC, POLITICAL AND SOCIAL CRISIS

The five most significant indicators have been shown here in previous occasions. The three economic indicators derive from the Consumer Sentiment Index (ISC) that compares R’s perceptions about his/her personal economic situation (Optimism, IO) and that of Spain (Evaluation of the Economic Situation, IESE) at present, in the past and in the immediate future. The two political indicators measure Satisfaction with how Democracy is working (ISD), and Satisfaction with the Government’s performance (ISG). ....

INTERPERSONAL TRUST

A question that appears in almost all international comparative surveys is the 'Interpersonal Trust' question, usually asked in the following terms: "Generally speaking, would you say that most people can be trusted or that you need to be very careful in dealing with people?" As the world map shows, the world doesn't trust much other people. Leaving appart the Northern Europe region (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland), and six other countries with almost an equal number of people trusting and not trusting, the remaining ones fall under the equilibrium index. On the bottom side, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago and Rwanda are the least trusty.

THE TECHNICAL CORNER

The WVS archive has to deal every day with many questions from researchers around the world. Most of these questions deal with weighting. Which variable should be used? Why are there so many? How are they calculated within countries? The purpose of this paper is to provide answers to all these questions and introduce readers to some new concepts such as the population balanced weight.

Alexandria conference for preparing for the 6th wave of WVS
The past 8-10th September took place a conference in Alexandria to prepare the next wave of the WVS2010. The objectives of the workshop were to discuss and coordinate the 2010 World Values Survey for the MENA-region.
